'Super Fun Night': Rebel Wilson Can't Save This Mess

Even after switching out the original pilot for the second episode, "Super Fun Night" still didn't deliver laughs. Rebel Wilson has great comedic energy, but it's lost in this mess of a show. Rebel plays Kimmie, a successful but socially awkward lawyer. She makes a pact with two of her equally introverted friends to go out and have a super fun night every week. Of course, that happened in the original pilot, so all viewers knew is that they made a decision to go out this night to a piano bar.

Wilson did a lot of her signature physical humor, which included plenty of gags relating to her size. E! Online's Leanne Aguilera wasn't impressed, though. "Wilson spends the majority of the first two episodes obnoxiously poking fun at her weight (e.g., wrestling with her Spanx, ordering four pizzas at once, etc.)," she wrote. "We agree that's great that to be able to laugh at yourself, but why does weight have to be such a gigantic punch line for this show?”

HuffPost TV's Mo Ryan put the new show on her list of fall comedies to avoid like the plague. "‘Super Fun Night’ isn't just bad, it's infuriatingly bad, given Wilson's likability, game energy and overall potential as a TV personality," she wrote. "It's as if the whole goal of the pilot is to get viewers to dislike every single character and want nothing to do with them ever again. I hope this show can quickly improve on its terrible pilot, but I fear ABC simply doesn't know what to do with Wilson. At all.”

Unfortunately, as viewers just witnessed, it doesn't appear to have gotten better at all. Nevertheless, "Super Fun Night" will be back on Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
