'Survivor: One World' Premiere: Medical Evacuation Gives Men Chance To Show Mercy (VIDEO)

New 'Survivor' Season Pits Men Vs. Women

"Survivor" tribes haven't been split by gender since Season 12, but that was the divide for Season 24's "Survivor: One World" (Wed., 8 p.m. EST on CBS). The all-new twist, though, was that while they would be separate as tribes, they would all live together on the same beach. Right away, this created some interesting dynamics and more tension in a first episode than has been seen in a long time.

The bad blood strated right away when Jeff Probst had them stripping a truck for supplies. During the process, the guys stole some supplies from the girls' side when they weren't looking. Then, Jeff sent them in opposite directions, saving the surprise that they'd be sharing a beach, which only helped the animosity build.

It escalated throughout the episode, as the guys proved capable of working together -- and building fire -- while the girls seemed unable to come together as a tribe, though they did manage to catch two chickens. While the girls hoarded the chicken, the guys refused to share their fire.

The bitterness continued into the first Challenge of the season, which stopped abruptly when Kourtney hurt her wrist right out of the gate. She wound up getting medically evacuated and the guys were given a choice. As the entire women's tribe couldn't finish the chalenge, technically the guys won automatically. But Jeff let them decide to either take the win, or allow the challenge to continue and give the women a sporting chance ... perhaps building up favor for later in the game.

The men opted for the easy win and the women went to Tribal Council, where Jeff called them out on being a total mess as a tribe. If they can't get it together, they'll be easy picking for the guys' tribe over the next few weeks. Promos for next week look like they haven't gotten the message just yet.

As for this week, there was mixed news. Kourtney broke her wrist, meaning she wasn't going to be able to return to the game. But because of this, Jeff didn't force the tribe to eliminate anyone else. So all the fighting and exposing of problems within the tribe at Tribal Council wasn't salved by getting rid of anyone. Instead, they'll have to all go back together and apparently not work anything out.

Find out how it plays out as "Survivor: One World" continues Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
