Joan Of Arc Statue's Sword Back In Right Hand Of French Heroine

Sword Returned To D.C.'s Joan Of Arc's Statue

WASHINGTON -- Joan of Arc has her sword back, just in time for her 600th birthday next year.

For years, those who have gazed out over the skyline of the nation's capital from Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park have likely noticed Paul Dubois' equestrian statue of Joan of Arc, a 1922 gift to the women of the United States from the Le Lyceum Societe des Femmes de France.

But the bronze statue -- a copy of an original that's located outside Reims Cathedral in France -- has been missing its sword for years.

Prince of Petworth's "jaw hit the ground" when the neighborhood blogger recently saw that the sword is now firmly in place in Joan's right hand.
