GOP Congressmen: Hundreds Of Calls, Emails Coming From People Opposed To Syria Intervention

Congressmen Say They're Getting Hundreds Of Calls, Emails From People Opposed To Syria Intervention

Several GOP congressmen are saying constituents opposed to an intervention in Syria are calling and emailing their offices by the hundreds.

Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) have both tweeted about the flood of messages they're receiving from constituents:

Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) said he's received similar messages, telling National Review it's "not hyperbole" that his office has received 500 calls about Syria with only two callers expressing support for intervention.

Politico reported Wednesday that 80 percent of House Republicans are against military strikes in Syria. Two new polls show most Americans feel the same way.

A Senate committee passed a resolution Wednesday to bomb Syria in retaliation for President Bashar al-Assad's alleged use of chemical weapons, despite the public's reservations. The resolution will now go to the full Senate, where it will be brought up for debate and a vote next week.
