"American Horror Story" fans will have undoubtedly already encountered the magnetic stage presence of Taissa Farmiga. For those of you who haven't, now's the time to get familiar because she may just be the next big thing.

Farmiga has mastered the art of the "troubled teen," but her craft can by no means be written off as one-sided. Farmiga got her start in 2011 with the indie drama "Higher Ground," but she entered the spotlight with her portrayal of depressed teen Violet on FX series "American Horror Story." Her performance was harrowing, as were the situations the character continually found herself in. In 2013, Farmiga returned to the film world to star in "The Bling Ring" alongside Katie Chang and Emma Watson, before joining "American Horror Story" once again for Season 3: Coven.

To understand her art, you have to be aware of one important fact: Taissa has a famous older sister who also specializes in thriller and horror acting. Vera Farmiga is an Academy Award-nominated actress who you will have most recently seen starring in the A&E series "Bates Motel." Blame it on upbringing or something in the blood, but both Farmiga sisters have a knack for scaring the living daylights out of people. Taissa offered the following insight to Reuters on why her "Coven" character might have particular appeal to audiences:

There's something about the supernatural and having powers to make things easier. It's trying to let your imagination run wild. Being able to move things or read people's minds, it's appealing to people, it's weird and special.

Another little-known fact about Taissa: She never wanted to get into acting. What drew her in was a role in her sister's directorial debut "Higher Ground," which premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. The two have been colleagues ever since. "Usually I'm the one calling [Vera]," Farmiga told Reuters. "She's always there for me and she's got so much for experience. It's so lovely having someone like that there for you. I love watching her on 'Bates Motel,' she's so incredible and I get so inspired."

Say what you will about "American Horror Story," or about the horror genre in general, but Farmiga may be on track for mainstream stardom, and the transition would not be unprecedented. Other stars we now see in major films and sitcoms who began their careers in horror include George Clooney ("Return to Horror High," anyone?) and Leonardo DiCaprio ("Critters 3"!), not to mention the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" franchise which spawned the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Renee Zellweger and Viggo Mortensen.

Keep an eye out for Taissa Farmiga, because our guess is she's bound for celebrity.
