Traveling is a passion of mine’s and I have met some of the most remarkable and like minded people on my journey. I discovered a truly talented author when I was on vacation with my daughter and husband in Nerja, Spain. The genre of his book is not one I would normally read. I am more partial to Nicolas Sparks or Paolo Cohello. However, when I heard this man’s remarakble story of self discovery and determination, I couldn’t help but feel complete admiration towards him and the need to read his book.

He decided one day at 33 years of age that his job which he had studied most of his 20s to achieve, was no longer doing it for him. So, he packed it in, packed his bag and moved to an isolated part of the South of France to write a book. A book that would give The Talented Mr Ripley a run for it’s money. The book was complete within 6 months, fully edited and a date in place to be released by The Three Mountains Press. Despite the countless critical remarks, he did what he wanted and desired. And low and behold became what his heart truly desired.

M.P. Jacobs is an English novelist and short story writer. He is also a passionate traveller and adventurer, having lived in three different continents which is reflected in his writing. He is the founder of Novelize.co and currently lives in Paris, France.

The book was titled Confessions of an Expat by M.P Jacobs which was released 1st September, 2016. Set throughout 1950s Europe, we are introduced to Harry Hoffman, a young swarve striver, who’s unlikable, immoral, and cold blooded character, we can’t help but like. A product of a broken home, and branded a sociopath by his doctor, Harry goes to Venice and meets Cleo who offers him an unexpected love affair and a chance to start over. Soon Harry’s fascination with Cleo turns obsessive as he finds himself enraged by other admiration and affections towards her, and when his new found happiness is threatened and their affair is strained, he drifts back to his old ways and plots his revenge, ‘which is swift as it is shocking’.

Confessions of an Expat serves as an unforgettable introduction to a new kind of criminal, not seen before in this type of crime-fiction genre. This hypnotic and amoral novel, pushes past the genre, unsettles the reader by using prose style that cuts through its syntax to create powerful effects.

This existential thriller into which the author plunges us, is as shocking as it is tense. M.P. Jacobs forces us to re-evaluate the lines between reason and madness, normal and abnormal, while goading us into sharing his treacherous hero’s point of view, who’s talent for murder and self-invention is fatal as it is intoxicating.
