Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) was re-elected to Congress in Illinois' 8th congressional district on Tuesday.
Duckworth defeated Republican Lawrence Kaifesh to earn her second term in Congress. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.
Duckworth, the first female combat Iraq war veteran to win a congressional seat, announced that she was pregnant in September. Duckworth, who lost both of legs and partial use of her right arm in 2004 when a helicopter she was piloting in Iraq got shot down, announced in October that she would retire from the military.
