We are not modern nomads traveling the world and eating cool, different and uniqe foods. For the better part of the year we are stuck at home, planning our next great escape but until that date comes, we don't just sulk in the corner and wait. No, we go out and explore what our city, the capital of Slovenia has to offer. So, when we can't get away, but desperately want to, we try out the different restaurants around Ljubljana.
I am not a picky eater, I'll basically enjoy anything that doesn't require me to slave behind the stove. It's not that I don't know how to cook. I do, I can follow a recipe to a T, but it's just too much work, sweating over in the kitchen for a few measly bits. I much prefer when someone else does all the work and I can just enjoy the food. I don't really care about all the processes it took for that beautiful plate to come into my hands. Let me tell you, it's much easier to enjoy it, when I didn't have to peel what felt like a thousand potatoes. That is why I love to eat out. I don't need to do the work, but still get to enjoy a great meal. We have been busy and through the years, we've visited many restaurants in Ljubljana.
That is why we immidiately fell in love with the Open Kitchen idea. It takes place every Friday throughout the Summer and hopefully through the Fall as well. It's a big food festival located on one of the main squares in the centre of Ljubljana. The many stands are occupied by different restaurants, all preparing delicious food right on the spot. So, you have a chance to travel where ever your mouth desires; you can try a piece of Egypt, Russia or Thailand, perhaps more of meat person, well, then you'll get a kick out of the Argentinian steaks. And on it goes. Trust me, even the pickiest of eaters, wouldn't go hungry here. Or thirsty, with all the great Slovenian wine and amazing beer. You can certainly have your pick here. Sit down, if you can find a spot, listen to the music, watch the crowds and enjoy both the great food and the inspiring atmosphere. It's even amazing for the kids, while ours are picky at home, the moment we come here, all bets are off, they will eat just about anything.
I often complain how there is not much going on in the city, but this project and how it was accepted really proves me wrong. And I like it.
