This $3M New York City Co-Op Holds A Rather Wild Surprise

Multi-million dollar apartments are a dime a dozen these days on the New York City real estate scene. But one covered in taxidermy? Well, that's another thing. And if you happen to be in the market for one, you're in luck.

Apartment 3J at the Beresford apartment complex, one of the most prestigious prewar cooperatives in New York City, is for sale and it's covered in stuffed and mounted animal heads.

According to The New York Times, the apartment owner, Gregory Speck, once aspired to be a zoologist. Just take one look at his two-bedroom two-bath co-op and Speck's passion is clear. But it all depends which photo you're looking at.

Since the taxidermy is a negotiable part of the $3,395,000 sale, listing agent Halstead Properties have presented prospective buyers with two sets of photos: One that shows the apartment as-is and another, which has most of the taxidermy edited out.

Which version would you choose?

Who could imagine what lies behind these legendary walls?
"Built in 1929, the BERESFORD is Emory Roth's quintessential New York City landmark," Halstead notes.

From a semi-private elevator landing, entry is provided through a grand 28-foot gallery.
Yes, those are antelope heads and ducks on the wing.
And who can miss the black bear greeting you at full height next to the lamp.
Or, let's just skip the bison head, why don't we?
Around it stands 10-foot ceilings, three north-facing windows and a wood-burning fireplace.
But wait until you see the living room...
"There are stuffed turkeys, mounted elk heads and a cougar, baring teeth in front of the fireplace," The New York Times notes. But the most interesting piece of all may be the "bison head that Mr. Speck found in a supermarket freezer in Virginia and had stuffed."
What, no taxidermy in the kitchen?
Apparently not -- just two exposures, and original brushed steel and glass cabinets awaiting restoration.
