Comedienne Amy Schumer is employing humor, no-nonsense legislation -- whatever it takes -- to help bring stricter gun control to the U.S. The actress was inspired to take a vocal stand after a gunman shot to death two women at a screening of her film “Trainwreck” in a Louisiana theater this summer. About a week later, Schumer joined her cousin Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) at a press conference as he introduced a three-part legislative gun control plan.

She drove the point home in October when she hosted "Saturday Night Live" and starred in a mock PSA, aptly titled “Guns,” which reminded viewers how we’ve let guns infiltrate nearly every aspect of our everyday lives.

Viola Davis made history when she became the first black woman to win an Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a drama series and she used the moment to both celebrate, and remind the industry how much work still needs to be done.

"The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity," Davis said during her acceptance speech. "You can not win an Emmy for roles that simply are not there."

Beyonce solidified her queen status this year when she used her star power and funds to support the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Back in May, Bey and husband, Jay-Z, reportedly wired thousands of dollars to bail out protesters in Baltimore and Ferguson, Missouri. She urged her fans to follow her lead when she posted a callout on Instagram, encouraging people to support the NAACP’s efforts in cleaning up Baltimore and helping people affected by the protests in the wake of Freddie Gray’s death.

Miley Cyrus knows how to get our attention, especially when it comes to causes we should be caring more about. After making headlines for inviting a homeless man to accept her trophy at the Video Music Awards last year, the “Wrecking Ball” singer launched the Happy Hippie Foundation, a nonprofit that supports homeless youth. "When you have all eyes on you, what are you saying?” Cyrus told the Associated Press after starting the organization. “And that's what I had to ask myself a lot.”

Taylor Swift may have the most enviable #SquadGoals and there’s good reason for it. The “Bad Blood” singer made room this year for her youngest fans facing the greatest struggles. After Naomi Oakes, 11, learned she had to miss her idol’s concert due to her cancer treatment, Swift donated $50,000 to the girl’s GoFundMe campaign. And in a rare performance this summer, Swift sang “Ronan,” a song dedicated to a boy who died in 2011 just before his 4th birthday from neuroblastoma.
