Taylor Swift Says She Was 'Slaughtered' For Dating Famous Guys In Her Early 20s

"I didn’t date for two and a half years. Should I have had to do that? No."

It's safe to say that Taylor Swift and the media have some bad blood.

Before the superstar paired off with current boyfriend Calvin Harris, Swift was allegedly attached to multiple famous gentlemen in her early 20s, including Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal and John Mayer. And, in case you forgot, we wouldn't let her forget it.

For all those who've clicked through what she calls "my incredibly sexist Men–of–Taylor Swift slideshows” (guilty), it's time to repent our celebrity sins and pledge to do better. In the May issue of Vogue, Swift dismantles the skewed perception of herself as a serial dater and how that identifier put a hold on her romantic relationships.

“You know, I went out on a normal amount of dates in my early 20s, and I got absolutely slaughtered for it,” she told Vogue. “And it took a lot of hard work and altering my decision-making. I didn’t date for two and a half years. Should I have had to do that? No."

Over the course of her career, the media hasn't been the only one to take jabs at the "Shake It Off" singer. Swift's success makes her an easy target in the world of celebrity, eliciting criticism from peers, online haters and, of course, Kanye West, regarding her music, relationships and famous friends.

“I’ve had people say really hurtful things about me, and so I’ve kind of learned how to gauge it: ‘This is, like, low-to-medium-level hurtful,’" Swift explained.

“There are a lot of really easy ways to dispel rumors,” she added. “If they say you are pregnant, all you have to do is continue to not be pregnant and not have a baby. If the rumor is that you have fake friendships, all you have to do is continue to be there for each other. And when we’re all friends in 15 years and raising our kids together, maybe somebody will look back and go, ‘That was kind of ridiculous what we said about Taylor and her friends.’”

But for the time being, Swift has settled down with Harris, with the pair recently celebrating their one-year anniversary. After taking home the the award for Best Tour at the iHeartRadio Music Awards this month, she gave Harris a special shoutout, calling the Scottish DJ the "most amazing person to come home to when the spotlight went out."

“I’m just taking things as they come,” Swift told Vogue. “I’m in a magical relationship right now. And of course I want it to be ours, and low-key ... this is the one thing that’s been mine about my personal life.”

But you promised ...
