When you look back on your life, are you happy with what you see or have you felt held back from doing some of the things you truly wanted to do? If you feel confined by your own sense of limitation or by the expectations of others, Bishop T.D. Jakes has this powerful advice: Never settle for the status quo.
"Get out of the cage," Jakes says passionately to an "Oprah's Lifeclass" audience. "If you can see out the cage and if you can think out of the cage, then get your feet and other parts out of the cage!"
"Amen," Oprah says, as the audience applauds.
Jakes then stresses the importance of freeing yourself from the status quo while you still have the ability to do so. "[Do it] while you have the energy to run, while you've got the energy to roar, while you've got the energy to go through a period of adjustment," he advises.
If you have the motivation but are still feeling tripped up by everything it takes to achieve your long-term goal, don't worry, Jakes says. You don't need to have all the answers upfront to follow your instincts and steer your life in the direction you want.
"It's okay not to have everything at first. It's okay, lion, not to know how to hunt at first," he tells the crowd. "Gradually bring about the change so that when you get to the end of your life, you won't die in a cage that you were never meant to be in the first place."
