Melissa Brookstone, a member of one of the nation's largest Tea Party groups, pushed the envelope on anti-Obama suggestions Wednesday, urging small business owners to stop hiring new employees until the president gives up his "globalist socialist agenda of redistribution of wealth."
In a post at Tea Party Nation, Brookstone writes that she's "resolved" a number of issues about the Obama administration. Her primary resolution appears to be that that President Barack Obama and "progressive socialists" in Congress, Hollywood and the media have banded together to support the Occupy Wall Street movement (which includes "marxists" and "communists") in an existential fight "against business, private property ownership and capitalism."
Brookstone concludes by saying she will demonstrate her opposition to this supposed operation by closing her business to new employees:
I, an American small business owner, part of the class that produces the vast majority of real, wealth producing jobs in this country, hereby resolve that I will not hire a single person until this war against business and my country is stopped.
While seemingly extreme, Brookstone's rhetoric about the Occupy Wall Street movement has been matched by others, including Tea Party-backed Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.).
In an interview with Newsmax Tuesday, West, like Brookstone, claimed that the progressive movement had ties to more nefarious political groups.
"I think there is a danger in the people on Capitol Hill starting to embrace this movement, especially now that we know that the American Nazi Party and the American Communist Party are also starting to align themselves with this Occupy movement," he said, before contending that the Tea Party was a more focused movement, united in its desires.
"When you talk to somebody with the Tea Party, they can tell you what they want -- limited government that’s constitutionally mandated, fiscal responsibility, they also want to see our free market and free enterprise systems adhered to, as well as our national security."
On Tuesday, members of Occupy Wall Street gathered in an effort to coalesce their platform. At the meeting, the "Demands Working Group" created a list of policy suggestions that would define the movement, including calls for campaign finance reform, a deficit reduction plan and the recalling of military personnel at all non-essential bases. They also set plans to hold a national convention on July 4, 2012.
