National Council On Teacher Quality To Release Guide To Teacher Training Programs

New Guide May Help Prospective Teachers Choose Best Training Program

In response to criticism that teacher training programs are leaving graduates unprepared for the classroom, the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) plans to conduct an evaluation, NPR reports.

The NCTQ will review 1,000 institutions across the country to give prospective students information about various training programs.

The plan isn't popular with everyone. Some schools are wary of the idea or have already decided not to participate, saying that the NCTQ is rating schools based on the wrong criterion and that training programs are already held to high standards to be accredited.

According to NPR, the consumer guide for prospective teachers will be published in U.S. News and World Report in 2012.
