Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) will visit the Customs and Border Protection facility in McAllen, Texas, on Saturday and participate in an event with conservative media magnate Glenn Beck.
“Tens of thousands of children are being smuggled into the United States by dangerous drug cartels and transnational gangs -- it is heartless to allow that to continue,” Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier told The Blaze in an email.
“But while we work to reverse the policies that have caused this tragedy, it is important we recognize the human element of this crisis, and Sen. Cruz is glad to join Glenn Beck and Mercury One in that effort to provide some relief from the suffering this administration is causing,” she added.
A Texas firebrand, Cruz has been criticized for attempting to defund President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals order in light of the humanitarian crisis at the border, which he blames on Obama.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), has disagreed with Cruz on this issue, saying that repealing DACA "would be incredibly disruptive," while Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) argued that "it’ll complicate things considerably."
Beck, who will also be joined by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) in McAllen, said on a July 9 broadcast that "we have to be human first, and take care of human needs and don’t let the system collapse."
"The way we will lose is by appearing to be something that we’re not, by appearing to be hateful people that don’t care about children," he added.
