South Carolina State Rep. Ted Vick (D) was arrested on Wednesday for drunk driving, speeding and illegal possession of a pistol, according to the Associated Press.
Vick, who is running in a crowded field for the Democratic nomination in South Carolina's 7th District, refused a breathalyzer test and was taken to jail. WIS-TV in Columbia, S.C., reported that he was released on the DUI and speeding charges on Thursday but is still awaiting bond for the weapons charge.
The arrest came just two days after Vick launched a new television ad touting his belief in "service to others, commitment and family."
Vick also made headlines last month for resigning his membership in the American Legislative Executive Council, which liberals have accused of promoting conservative model legislation in several states despite claiming to be a nonpartisan group.
UPDATE: Spring Valley Patch reports that a 21-year-old female student was in Vick's car at the time of the arrest: "The 21-year-old USC student told Columbia police officers she met Vick at Delaney's Pub in Five Points where they were drinking, according to the report. They left and continued drinking at Jake's Bar. Vick offered the student a ride home when they were both leaving, according to the report."
