This young athlete doesn't let anything stop her from playing the sports she loves.
On Saturday, Sarah Kate Sligh was one of hundreds of children to complete the One Mile Run Race at the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend in Florida, but her journey to the finish line is extraordinary.
Sarah Kate, who was born 10 weeks premature, has cerebral palsy. As her mom explains in the video above, the 12-year-old had surgery earlier this year, and doctors estimated it would take about a year to recover.
"[Sarah Kate] has come so far this year," she said. "She did the mile in February and she was struggling. She had surgery seven weeks later. They told us it could take her a year to recover from that surgery. I never thought she would be out here today ... to have so many people cheering for her and supporting her, it was awesome."
Sarah Kate -- who has been on her school's swim team and has played in a recreational softball league, according to her mother's blog -- has an attitude that speaks for itself. After she finished the mile, the smiling young athlete revealed her winning mindset.
"If you want to do something," she said, "You just got to set your goal, finish strong and never stop."
