A Nashville, Tennessee, teen is accused of firing multiple shots at family members after they tried to roust him out of bed to go to school.

The 16-year-old, whose name has not been released since he’s been charged as a juvenile, was in bed Monday morning when his mother and grandmother tried to get him to get up, according to a news release from Nashville police. The two women told law enforcement that he became angry and threatened them before grabbing a handgun out of a closet and opening fire.

"There was a quarrel about getting up and getting ready for the day when (at some point) the 16-year-old ran to a closet, got a 9 mm handgun and started firing," Nashville police spokeswoman Kris Mumford told The Tennessean.

He allegedly shot his grandmother at least twice, and his 12-year-old sister and 6-year-old nephew were grazed by bullets. Mumford said none of the injuries were life-threatening.

His mother and a 2-year-old sister who was in the home were not injured.

The boy’s relatives had no idea he even had a gun at the residence, according to police.

He’s been charged with four counts of attempted homicide and one count of reckless endangerment, the AP reported.
