Texas Judge's 'Faith In God' Is Why He Refuses To Perform Same-Sex Weddings

Here we go again!

A Texas judge announced on Facebook Wednesday that he would not perform same-sex marriages due to his "faith in God," despite the obvious reality that marriage equality is now the law of the land.

According to The New Civil Rights Movement, the Republican justice of the peace, Bill Metzger, is attempting to validate his refusal to wed same-sex couples through a claim to religious freedom.

Metzger's actions seem eerily reminiscent of Kentucky clerk Kim Davis who refused to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples. However, the issue he attempted to cite under the umbrella of "religious freedom" has previously been debunked by other Texas officials.

Last year, Harris County attorney Vince Ryan addressed the issue by saying:

“A judge or justice of the peace is authorized to perform a marriage but is under no obligation to do so. However, once the judge elects to undertake the performance of marriages, the service must be offered to all (including same-sex couples) in a non-discriminatory manner.”
