Texas Runoff Election: David Dewhurst, Dan Patrick To Face Off For Lt. Governor Nomination

GOP Lieutenant Gov Candidates To Face Runoff

The top two Republican candidates for Texas lieutenant governor will face a runoff election, the Associated Press reports.

Incumbent David Dewhurst and state Sen. Dan Patrick will compete in a May 27 runoff. Neither candidate received a clear majority in Tuesday's primary.

Dewhurst has served under Gov. Rick Perry (R) since 2003. In 2012, he ran for U.S. Senate, but eventually lost his primary to Ted Cruz, who went on to win the seat.
