Not unlike the lovable little robot in the Pixar animated film "Wall-E," ConWebWatch picks through the garbage that is the bias and hate of right-wing journalism, processes it into cube-size portions to make it fit for public consumption, and stack them on our website. In the process, we occasionally find those VHS-tape-of-"Hello, Dolly!"-sized gems of egregious hate and bias.
The Slantie Awards is a celebration of those gems, polished up and given the attention they deserve. So put on your Sunday clothes and join our seventh annual sojourn into the best of what right-wing journalism is famous for.

The first award is for the most egregious example of bias in "news" coverage. Sure, there were a couple other possible contenders -- such as Newsmax's spectacularly ill-fated attempt to rehabilitate Bernard Kerik's reputation and CNSNews.com's molehill-to-mountain approach in attacking President Obama -- but really, there was only possible winner: WorldNetDaily, for its increasingly desperate grip on the Obama birth certificate story.
WND more than lived up to our prediction that it would become Obama Hate Central, and nowhere was that attitude better exemplified than its obsession with Barack Obama's birth certificate. When it wasn't telling lie after lie or offering evasive answers to simple questions, it was touting unverified documents that blew up in its face -- like the "Kenyan birth certificate" that proved to be fake.
WND also crawled into bed with Orly Taitz, publishing embarrassingly sycophantic profiles of the birther lawyer while hiding from its readers her increasingly erratic behavior and shoddy lawyering. (More on that below.)
With this obsession, Joseph Farah and WND demonstrated once and for all that personal and partisan agendas are more important to them than actual journalistic principles of reporting facts.

The next award is the LoBaido Award for the silliest statement made by a writer for a conservative news Web site (named after Anthony LoBaido, who wrote a post-9/11 column for WorldNetDaily that was so unhinged -- he blamed the attacks on America's immorality since "all that is evil in the world can be found in New York" and, for good measure, called Hillary Clinton "openly Marxist, treasonous and abortion-mongering, occultic" -- WND eventually pulled it from its site). And the nominees, with a heavy emphasis on Obama derangement, are:
How does the legend of Faust apply to Gov. Jindal's refusal to accept all of the $100 million dollars Obama is offering the state of Louisiana as part of it's share of stimulus package money. President Obama, like the suave, cosmopolitan Mephistopheles, has not only crafted and passed the largest wealth confiscation in the history of the world, but upon closer examination of the 1,000-plus pages of this bloated, complex and convoluted text, the devil is truly in the details.
It's like the wedding scene of "The Godfather," Part I, where Michael Corleone recalled his father (Vito Corleone) doing business through his muscleman, Lou Cabrachi: "Either your signature on this contract, or your brains on this contract." President Barack Corleone's so-called $787 billion economic stimulus package has offered America a deal with the devil.
-- Ellis Washington, Feb. 25 WorldNetDaily column
What is the matter with this man? You ever stop to wonder? Only under communism, only under Stalin, did you ever hear that religion should be silenced. Even in Germany, Hitler, as vicious, violent crazy maniac as he was, tolerated religion in his country. But Barack Obama somehow can't tolerate it.
-- Jackie Mason, getting it wrong about Obama and prayer in a May 14 WorldNetDaily video
As many parents are focused on back to school clothes and supplies, the royal Czar Czar prepares to circumvent parental authority and speak directly to our children in one week. What will he command?
This much is certain, the entire cadre of Ombud children will be having a parent sanctioned skip day September 8th, but that's not enough. The public and the media need to demand that a transcript of this speech be made available before the weekend. Yes you can.
-- "Mithridate Ombud," Sept. 2 NewsBusters post (emphasis in original)
It's not safe to send your child to public school today.
Chances are good the indoctrination level will go from Defcon 2 to Defcon 1.
Barack Obama has already stolen your money. Today he attempts to steal the minds of your children.
In fact, as of today, it may be too late.
-- Joseph Farah, Sept. 8 WorldNetDaily column
There is a remote, although gaining, possibility America's military will intervene as a last resort to resolve the "Obama problem." Don't dismiss it as unrealistic.
-- John L. Perry, Sept. 29 Newsmax column
The Muslim world has dreamed of this day when a weak, Quisling leader in Obama is utterly a revolutionary figure following a long, ignoble tradition of former great tyrants like Nebuchadnezzar, Caesar, Muhammad, Henry VIII, Napoleon, Mussolini, Woodrow Wilson, FDR, LBJ, Putin, Chavez and others. Obama Inc. thinks in grand, over-arching, totalizing themes rather than simply single programs as Clinton did with gays in the military or national health care in 1993. No, no, no - one program, even one-seventh of America's entire multi-trillion dollar economy, is much too small for Obama Inc. to be bothered with.
Unless this narcissist, Manchurian Candidate is stopped, America will soon be plunged into a new Dark Age called Obama Inc.
-- Ellis Washington, May 9 WorldNetDaily column
America going on a witch hunt and prosecuting those who kept this country safe from people like Khalid Shiekh Mohammed, as Obama has announced he intends to do, sets back our moral authority. America turning her back on the jihad against women, Christian, Jews, and non-believers has set back America's moral authority. America electing a radical for a President has set back America's moral authority.
America electing an America-hater for president vanquished our moral authority.
-- Pam Geller, Nov. 17 Newsmax column
[S]uffice it to say that Eric Holder is but another floatie in the septic tank that is the Obama administration, albeit a pretty significant one.
-- Erik Rush, March 19 WorldNetDaily column
Barack Obama hates white people - especially white men. Sorry folks, but the truth will set you free!
-- Jesse Lee Peterson, August 4 WorldNetDaily column
Indeed - like the proverbial cellblock rapist, our president is "ramming" as much of his Marxist agenda down our collective throats as quickly as he can. One would think he fears that someone might come around the corner at any second and catch him.
-- Erik Rush, March 12 WorldNetDaily column
I can't help noticing the similarities between the Democrats' drive to pass Obamacare, and the methods used to collectivize agriculture in the Soviet Union.
-- Larry Eubank, Dec. 9 WorldNetDaily column
What can be done, when you learn that your house has already been invaded?
Well, the tried and true remedy is tenting.
Experts come in, actually envelope the whole dwelling in a giant tent - and send a very powerful fumigant, lethal to the varmints and unwelcome creatures, into every nook and cranny of the house. Done thoroughly, every last destructive insect or rodent is sent to varmint hell - and in a day or two, the grand house is habitable again.
I believe - figuratively, but in a very real way - we need to tent the White House!
For reasons only he can explain, the current occupant has purposely brought a whole flock of social and political voracious varmints with him into our House.
We urgently need to throw a "tent" of public remonstration and outcry over that hallowed abode, to cause them to quake and hunker down inside. And then treat the invaders, the alien rodents, to massive voter gas - the most lethal antidote to would-be tyrants and usurpers.
-- Pat Boone, Nov. 2 column published by WorldNetDaily and Newsmax
Obama is like a child TV star who rose to fame because he eloquently delivered a cute catchphrase ("Hope and Change" as opposed to "Hey, Mikey! He likes it!"), but now finds himself an adolescent in a grown-up world and faced with the task of actually manning up to the responsibilities of a new job for which he applied. Yet, instead of stepping up to the plate, Obama is relying merely on his celebrity status to coast through the sometimes ceremonial and often dire decisions a chief executive must make.
-- Katharine DeBrecht, Dec. 10 WorldNetDaily column
An illegal alien was elected president by just over half the nation's population. The elites that allowed him to take office as president know he lacks the necessary citizenship (perhaps the only application of "don't ask, don't tell" they've ever supported). Many of the voters suspect, too. But for the moment they have chosen to remain silent - because of their fear of losing everything in an economic collapse.
-- Craige McMillan, April 23 WorldNetDaily column
John McCormack of The Weekly Standard has posted more embarrassing pictures of Katie Couric's dirty dancing after her first night of anchoring at CBS[.]
They suggest why Rich Noyes would joke that if Al Gore is the "Godfather of Green" (as Couric called him), she could be "Queen of the Cougars."
-- Tim Graham, Dec. 1 NewsBusters post
Picking an anti-American racist like Sotomayor is classic Obama. I wouldn't be surprised if this broad lived in a commune with Bill Ayers at some point.
-- Molotov Mitchell, June 3 WorldNetDaily video
Having Barack Obama as our first black president is analogous to Dennis Rodman having been America's first black basketball player. No one can deny Mr. Rodman's credentials as an outstanding basketball player, unless one is a mental deficient. However, no one can deny that he is also a skanky creep, unless one is a mental deficient bereft of any character whatsoever.
This national Obamagasm is like an episode of "The Twilight Zone" or "Star Trek" (the original): Only one, or perhaps a select few, recognize the monster for what it is; everyone else is either oblivious, or somehow paying slavish deference to it. By the time it is unmasked, the damage it has done is incalculable.
-- Erik Rush, Feb. 5 WorldNetDaily column
Immigrants, legal and illegal, need to realize that the U.S. lifestyle that attracted them may not survive in the new Obama America. Immigrants could find themselves in a totalitarian nation. Globalist Democrats see abortion as a population-control measure, and leftist "progressives" ensconced in the Obama administration see it as a tool in social engineering, adopting the disgraced eugenics of the past.
-- James Walsh, Aug. 4 Newsmax column
We have just watched as a man lacking virtually any proper qualifications rose to become the most powerful man in the world, almost solely on his charisma and his shallow appeal to class envy. Today, throughout the Islamic world, the masses are yearning for and longing for a populist messiah figure known as the Mahdi who, according to their very own prophecies, will employ precisely the same methods as Obama.
-- Joel Richardson, likening Obama to the Antichrist (which he believes the Mahdi to be) while denying he's doing so, Aug. 5 WorldNetDaily column
And the winner -- despite multiple efforts by Ellis Washington and Erik Rush to bring the crazy -- is Newsmax's John L. Perry for advocating a military coup against Obama. It forced a couple acts of accountability that rarely happen in the ConWeb: Newsmax publicly apologized (albeit disingenuously so, dismissing Perry as merely an "unpaid blogger" when he had written for Newsmax for a decade, long before blogs were popular), deleted the column (which Newsmax also did to Boone's call for a "tenting" of the White House and one of Geller's smears of Obama as an "America-hater") and Perry hasn't written for Newsmax since. Even Anthony LoBaido still writes for WND on occasion.
Plus, it demonstrated how thin the veneer of respectability and moderation is that Newsmax has covered itself with over the past few years. Below that respectable sheen, it's still a close kin to WorldNetDaily.

Our final award is the Sleeping With Sources Award, honoring the news organization so close to its sources that it may as well be working for them -- or doing other things for/to them. And the winner is WorldNetDaily, for its extremely relationship with Orly Taitz.
WND declared its allegiance to Taitz early with a sycophantic profile of her as the "fierce blond attorney behind Obama eligibility lawsuits" with "a vibrant smile and an ebullient personality." But as the tales of erratic and shoddy lawyering began to pile up, WND -- proving Joseph Farah's claim to have no sacred cows to be utter lie -- made Taitz the biggest sacred cow of all, whitewashing or ignoring completely such inconvenient facts.
Why? Because, apparently, Taitz ordered it to. As WND dutifully reported, Taitz said that doubters should be questioning Obama, not her. Thus chastened, WND will not question Taitz. This means you won't read about Taitz's botched filings, the $20,000 fine for filing frivolous claims, or the allegations of suborning perjury at WND unless it figures out a way to spin them away.
We thought WND looked down on bestiality -- which makes it all the more strange that WND is spending a disturbing amount of time in bed with its treasured sacred cow.

And that concludes this year's awards. We shall return to our spaceship orbiting Earth until the mess gets cleaned up -- or until next year's awards, whichever comes first.
