We are on our final fear. In part one we discussed the fear of judgement. In part two, the fear of abandonment. Today, we examine the final fear.

This one take a little more work. The investment in time and energy, however, is priceless.

Fear #3: Fear of scarcity

At the root of this fear is insecurity and safety. Yet, most people do little exploration on what safety and security means to them. They blindly adapt the beliefs of their parents and society. If your parents has distorted money beliefs, chances are you'll carry those into your adult belief system. If you watched a parent work hard for money and either still didn't have enough or it was at the expense of relationships, you may work hard, but you'll continually sabotage that or you will resist working for fear of missing out on your life and relationships.

This fear may show up as:
  • I don't have enough money to invest in the skills I need, my business, health, etc.
  • Staying safe when you know you can do better.
  • Staying busy all the time with little to show.
  • Making excuses for not showing up fully, shining brightly, doing what you love.
  • Taking a vow of poverty.
  • Putting others first, even at the risk of our own financial security.

Defining your needs around safety and security are absolutely critical in breaking through this fear.

Solution:

Do you know your financial situation? What do you need to meet your basic needs (home, transportation, food, clothing, health)? How much debt do you actually have? What are the interest rates? How much would you need to live the lifestyle you truly desire?

Who's definition of success do you hold? What would success truly look like and feel like to you? Is it being rich and famous? Is it being a brilliant partner and parent? Is it making a lasting impact on the world? Is it simply helping others? Is it some combination?

How do you want to feel in your life in your life and what would it take to feel like that daily?
Reverse engineer you desired feelings and definition of success. In other words, think big, start small, and act now. What small steps can you start taking to reach that feeling and your dreams?
Get an accountability partner and check-in weekly. Someone you trust, who sees your vision, and isn't afraid to call you out when you play small.

You absolutely can bust free of these fears. Start with courageous self honesty and take inspired action steps. Little by little you will shift until eventually there's no room for the excuses because you are having too much fun playing at your greatest levels in life.
