Smartphones, they've become a tried and true staple for most Americans. In fact, statistics show that they are widely used across the board between all age ranges, and they are the more commonly used to device to access the internet.

These newer high-tech devices don't often come cheap. Hot sellers like the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 retail for $800 and upwards, as do the Apple iPhone counterparts. Needless to say, it's going to cost you a pretty penny to get that fancy new smartphone you like.

But when you are in the top 1% of society, and when money is of no object, things are a bit different for you. We were curious as to just how crazy-expensive these devices can get. What follows the three most expensive smartphones in the world.

Vertu Signature Cobra

This phone is immaculate looking but very artsy. You can only get it as a one-off design that's made to order. It was created by French jeweller, Boucheron, and literally defines the term "gaudy." It features a pear-cut diamond with one round diamond and two emerald eyes. Encrusting its case are 439 red rubies to add that finishing touch. Cost: $310,000

Gresso Luxor Las Vegas Jackpot

Gresso has forever been the creator of some of the world most expensive smartphones. This Luxur Las Vegas Jackpot is no different. It's made from 180 grams of solid gold, and boasts a real African wood backing that's over 200 years old and that is considered to be some of the most expensive wood in the world. Cost: $1,000,000

Diamond Crypto Smartphone

When money is literally of no object and you need to protect yourself from kidnappings and blackmail as well as cyber intruders, the Diamond Crypto Smartphone is your answer. It uses the Windows CE platform and was designed by Peter Aloissn. The cover features over 50 diamonds including 10 ultra-rare blue diamonds. Cost: $1,300,000

For some people, the lucky, affluent few, these phones are probably a standard staple. Given their ridiculous cost, however, most of us would be better off investing in a home, a retirement fund or a new company than to spend money so frivolously. In reality, $1,000 buys you a brand-new smartphone, a glass protector screen and a solid case. They already cost enough. There's no need to drop uncanny amounts of money on one.
