The 5 Best Artist Autobiographies

They Wrote Too??!

We know that you've probably read an artist's biography or two, but have you ever read artists' own account of their lives? Let us provide you with three bulletproof reasons why artists have the best autobiographies out there:

1. Artists are already insanely creative, thus most of these autobiographies are not your standard chronological narratives. The artistic sensibilities they display in their work translates onto the page, and it is fun to see the different ways they manifest in writing.

2. Artists mostly do not lead boring lives. They are known for being wild, impetuous, narcissistic, moody, and intemperate creatures. Their lives are pretty much the craziest reality show you could imagine.

3. Who doesn't fantasize about what it would be like to have a conversation with your favorite artist, peek into their brain, see the motivations behind their works, and hear about their crazy, absinthe-fueled nights in gay Paris? Well now you can!

These are, in HuffPost Arts' humble opinion, the five best artist autobiographies to date. If you don't agree, please feel free to lambaste our choices in the comment section below.
