Wedding proposals have long been a great means of showing your future bride just how much free time you have on your hands. In my case, I had a decent amount of down time and was able to come up with a creative and personal proposal I still feel pretty good about to this day.

Like Taco Bell, the ingredients in most proposals are fairly limited, yet allow for an almost infinite number of variations (sorry to disappoint, but turn a Gordita inside out and you've got yourself a Meximelt).

David Strick, however, wasn't satisfied with the usual suspects of champagne, strawberries and chocolate. A talented animator at NYC hot shop, Blue Sky, David decided to put his professional prowess to personal use -- he made a wedding proposal video. In the long and cliche canon of wedding proposals, I'm sure a video isn't all that novel. The difference with this one is that it's awesome.

This video wasn't created to be broadcast to the world or to show off. It was only shared with me because my sister-in-law is friends with David's now fiance. So before watching/enjoying David's video, you'll need a little backstory: They met in NYC, she moved to SF for a job, David was devastated. And so he created the animation below, e-mailed it to her, then flew across the country so he could secretly appear at her apartment right after she viewed it.

The video itself is terribly sad and does a great job conveying David's sense of loneliness and longing. Again, David didn't create it to be a stand-alone proposal. It was a one-two punch, the second one being his unsuspected and joyous arrival.

And, most importantly, it worked. Nice job, David.
