This week, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert were on break, preparing for their two weeks of convention coverage starting Monday, so we didn't get to see their reactions to the Todd Akin story. And Conan O'Brien was on vacation, but still cranking out some hilarious behind-the-scenes gems from rehearsal.
The rest of the late night shows were keeping it going strong with bits about everything from the skinny-dipping Congressman to the "Vogue"-ing bar mitzvah boy and of course Todd "Legitimate Rape" Akin.
(On a side note, I got to attend the pilot taping for The Midnight Show with Pete Holmes, a new late night show that would come on after Conan if it gets picked up for the fall. Pete Holmes is successfully capturing the silly spirit of his stand-up and podcast "You Made It Weird" and translating to the late night format. The show featured several taped pieces including Pete as a terrible doctor and an Ocean's Eleven-style intro to his writing staff. The guest was T.J. Miller, who hilariously mocked his good friend's first foray into television. With Conan O'Brien's company behind it, I think the show has a very good chance of succeeding in the midnight time slot, whether people actually watch it on TV or as clips right here on HuffPost Comedy.)
Below were my favorite late night clips of the week. What were yours?
