For the past year, Food52 users have been voting in weekly showdowns of reader-submitted recipes on a given theme. The winning recipes of each week will end up in Food52's upcoming cookbook, along with bios of the people who submitted them (Food52 explains the process in simple detail here).

Food52 and its co-founders Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs have invited HuffPost Food readers to vote on week 18's contest (of the second year, and the second book).

This week's showdown is for Your Best Mushrooms.

When we announced the mushroom contest, we were hoping someone would submit a recipe that really embraced the rich, loamy quality of morels -- rather than dousing them in cream or mixing them with other types of mushrooms. Waverly makes the most of these often exorbitant spring treasures by sauteing them in butter with lemon juice, leeks and herbs, and then topping homemade crostini with the morels and some soft goat cheese. This is simple, fresh cooking at its best. - A&M

Meg's Marinated Mushrooms

Amanda and Merrill's notes on Meg's Marinated Mushrooms from Food52:

Meg should be proud of her namesake mushrooms. Earthy and bright, hardlikearmour's homage to her sister is as versatile a mushroom dish as you'll find. We spooned it up warm straight from the bowl, piled it atop crisp crostini, and then wished for more so we could crown a bed of vibrant greens with it. We love the mix of shiitake and cremini, as well as the clever technique of cooking the mushrooms in a dry pan (we used a cast iron skillet with great success) so they really caramelize -- we may just be converts for life on this one. - A&M
