In the lead up to the Consecration of Adiyogi at Mahashivratri 2017, approximately 12,000 Isha meditators from 50 different countries including Australia, China, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, UAE, UK, and USA gathered to participate in the three day Yogeshwar Linga consecration at the Isha Yoga Center in southern India. Packed to capacity, the center built temporary accommodation to try to meet demand as Sadhguru does not want to deny anybody this rare opportunity.

Thousands of people turned up voluntarily last night for a “dress rehearsal” of Mahashivratri in a huge clearing of forest under flood-lit lights. A miracle in itself that the mystic takes in his stride. After a five minute walk from the Ashram gates, my chaperone, Ajay (a successful Sydney businessman turned yogi) and myself were awestruck by the overpowering presence of the face of Adiyogi. Staggering in size and majesty, the mesmerizing 112 ft tall face designed by Sadhguru can not be described in words nor could a photograph do it justice. It’s of gigantuous proportions.
We sat down and listened to some sound checks. Sadhguru regally arrived by bullock cart surrounded by brahmachari and preceeded by the prettiest cow I’ve ever seen. The brahmachari and Sadhguru carefully placed the Yogeshwar Linga in front of the Adiyogi. A lovely young woman poured water over the linga from a copper vessel.
In an historical speech, Sadhguru addressed the first audience to be seated in front of Adiyogi, announcing that the next 12 years will be a golden age for spirituality. Human bodies are designed evolve to higher and higher levels of consciousness and according to the New York Times Best-Selling Author, the time is now. Sadhguru himself is living proof.
“Human beings desperately resort to chemicals in the form of drugs and alcohol, not realizing that all the ingredients for a blissful chemistry lie within us. There is a way to be utterly intoxicated and fully aware at the same time from within. This is the essence of Adiyogi.” Sadhguru
As we left the venue, I joked to my friend, Ajay, “I have a feeling we will be seeing the magnificent Adiyogi many many, many more times. In many, many more lives.”
500,000 sober yet exhuberant people are expected to gather in front of the Adiyogi for the night long Mahashivratri celebration on 24th February. The participants will be graced by Sadhguru and Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and energised by world class performers including Rajasthan Roots.
