When Donald Trump made his way down the escalator and strolled to the podium to announce his run for the White House, the last thing he was probably thinking was that his speech would cause such a corporate backlash and lead to businesses cutting ties with him and entire countries boycotting his Miss Universe contest.

In his speech, Trump boasted about being "really rich", being "really proud" of his success, and then referring to others as stupid. However, he didn't stop there. Trump's most offensive comments came when discussing the Mexican-American border and immigration. "They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

Sally Kohn summed it up perfectly in an article she wrote at CNN.com: "Perhaps the lowest point, in a speech filled with low points, was when Trump started bashing Mexico and Mexicans -- and, in so doing, also bashed the fundamental values on which our own nation is founded."

Since his speech, Trump has refused to back down from any of his offensive comments. When asked if he would take back any of his derogatory comments in interviews with MSNBC, CNN, and FOX News, Trump doubled down on his comments.

So far, companies such as NBC Universal, Macy's, Serta, and even NASCAR have decided to end business relationships with him. Perhaps where Trump has been hit hardest, is with his Miss America and Miss Universe contests, which he co-owns. NBC, Univision, and others have announced that they will not be airing the Miss America and Miss Universe contests and numerous judges, co-hosts, and performers have dropped out.

And it doesn't stop there. So far several countries have also started dropping out of the Miss Universe contest in response to Trump's racist comments. Recently, Mexico and Costa Rica announced that they will not be sending a representative to this year's contest. More recently, Panama announced that they too will not be sending a representative to this year's Miss Universe contest, citing "solidarity" with Mexicans offended by Trump's comments.
