The Dyer Effect

Wayne Dyer's passing last week touched so many millions of hearts. It's a testament to how many million people's lives he impacted. How can one person have the capacity to lift so many people up and show them their light?

Something interesting happened to me. I woke up at 3:30 am this morning on Saturday, 5th September 2015 and had a feeling that I needed to write my next blog post in tribute to Dr. Wayne Dyer. My inspiration for writing comes from a feeling I get, and when I get the feeling, I know it's time to write. I had no idea that I would feel the need to write about Dr. Wayne Dyer, but in a way, it makes total sense. He was, to me, a great, inspirational master teacher and human being. His books, seminars, messages, and presence helped ease the trials and tribulations of my inner journey.

His passing last week touched so many millions of hearts. It's a testament to how many million people's lives he impacted. How can one person have the capacity to lift so many people up and show them their light? Dr. Wayne Dyer taught me that, in fact, we all have that light inside of us; each and every one of us has something unique to contribute to this world. It is not in some of us; it's in all of us. We are all connected to the loving source. Some call it god, universe, source energy, or, as Wayne put it, "I am light."

One of my dreams was to meet Dr. Wayne Dyer, and that wish came true in 2010. Hay House was presenting a series of seminars in Sydney, Australia. I attended during a weekend and listened with great excitement to Dr. Wayne Dyer talk on stage about how your thoughts are your currency. He talked about the power your thoughts have on your reality and that we are the creators of our realities and our lives. He was an advocate of the imagination, and he talked about passionately believing that you are able to create what does not exist. He ignited in me the possibility that I could create the life I imagined and not give in to the opinions of others but rather believe I am worthy and focus my attention on my dreams in a positive way.

Unbeknownst to me, that weekend would change my life. During the break, I decided to go check out the plethora of books available in the foyer and to see if I could take a photo with Dr. Wayne Dyer. There were hundreds of people waiting to have their books signed by him and have their photos taken. I felt overwhelmed in the crowd but decided to hang in there. Time was of the essence, as this was the only break and the only time he would sign books and take photos. As I was getting closer, I saw his assistant come up to him and heard her say he had five minutes left before he had to be back on stage. I knew in that moment that it was my one and only chance.

What I did next surprised even me. As he was looking around to address the next person waiting to take a photo with him, I called out his name and shouted, "Wayne!" He looked my way and smiled and then I walked up to him and handed my camera to a lovely lady who took a photo of Dr. Wayne Dyer and me. I thanked him and told him I was very grateful and that it was one of my dreams to meet him in person. He was graceful and humbled.

I was elated as I walked away from the experience. The experience was not about the photo but rather something more profound. Something happened to me being in the presence of Dr. Wayne Dyer. I felt it deep within me in my soul. I flew out of Sydney that evening for Melbourne, my home city. I cried all the way during the flight. I could not stop crying, and the crying lasted for a week. These were not tears of sadness but rather tears of deep joy and love. Dr. Wayne Dyer had such a powerful energy of love and it vibrated as such a high frequency that it touched anyone in his presence.

Something awakened in me in that moment and has stayed with me ever since. I realised that I am that love and light and that I no longer have to be hard on myself. I connected to that higher love inside of me, and it is from this place that I have been guided ever since. I started to believe in myself more, trust my inner knowing, and use my gifts and life experiences to help other people.

I asked at the beginning of this blog how one person could have such a capacity to lift so many people up and show them their light. Dr. Wayne Dyer had this capacity. I felt it personally, and I can only imagine the millions of people who have been touched by his light and love. For me, his love and light live on in each of us who were touched by his teachings and being. The best way I can think of honouring him is to live his teachings, to realise who we are deep inside, and "to see the light in others," as Dr. Wayne Dyer said many times as well as to help lift humanity to the frequency of joy, love, decency, and kindness. Thank you, Dr. Wayne Dyer, for touching my soul and the souls of many to live our best lives.
