What are some of the best things women can do to support other women's growth and development? It starts with hiring, in my opinion. Many times women feel less qualified to apply for roles even when they have an identical background or skill set as a male who applies. Women generally don't apply unless they feel they meet all of the listed qualifications. Leaders and managers (both men and women) and recruiters need to encourage females that they don't need to know everything to apply for a role.
Build your network with other women. I don't like to use the word mentorship, because mentorship doesn't have to be an official thing, it's just something that should be a part of the fabric of your life. One of my earliest female friends/mentor/sounding boards I met when I was first out of college in Investment Banking. She has been a role model, a reference and a good friend to me over the years.
Over the past few years, I've made an effort to bring female founders and female business leaders together. Whether that is over informal lunches, dinners at my house, or connecting women to each other, I see the power of making those connections and helping others to make connections too.
