'The Game' Finale: Melanie And Derwin Say Goodbye (VIDEO)

'The Game' Finale: Farewell To Melanie And Derwin

Though "The Game" (Tue., 10 p.m. ET on BET) has been renewed for a sixth season by the network that saved it after The CW dumped it in 2009. A big part of the winning formula for the series has been the popular couple of Melanie and Derwin, played by Tia Mowry Hardrict and Pooch Hall. But the couple will not be returning for the new season.

As such, they were written out of the show in a touching encounter. With Melanie being offered a great opportunity as a doctor, the couple was grappling with what to do and how to try and manage a long-distance relationship when Derwin came up with the perfect solution.

Forget long-distance altogether. After all those years of her supporting his career, he decided to return the favor. "Figured with my schedule wide open, why not take that time," he said. "Be on the sidelines rooting for my wife?”

It was a sweet moment for the couple, and a wonderful way for fans of the show to think of them as it continues without them. The good news is the parting between the actors and the show was amicable on both sides, leaving the door open for guest appearances from both of them down the road.

"The Game" has already been renewed for a sixth season, with the remaining cast on board, by BET.
