Today, I celebrate one of the most momentous years of a person’s life, the age of 40. “Chapter 40” as it is often referred to is a time when people do something memorable to commemorate their 40 years on earth. Many people develop bucket lists of things they want to accomplish, see or experience, using 40 as the milestone to begin this journey. I began to wonder what was that significant event I wanted to achieve at this juncture in my life. Is it a new country to explore, a dramatic new look or jumping from a plane? As I contemplated what I wanted to do to mark this moment, I quickly veered to the lane of my passion – African American Museums.

To celebrate this epic year of 40, I united my passion of museums and history, with my heart of philanthropy in order to preserve the legacy of museums for my children and the world. In order to do this, I am becoming a member of 40 African American museums and institutions that are focused on African American culture, history and art. The entities I selected are ones that I admire, support and I personally connect and believe in the mission and vision of the organization. Please know that these are all institutions that have a membership program that allows you to have access to special events, tours and other incentives. I invite you to consider the list of museums, organizations and cultural institutions and consider joining me on this journey this year. Whether you choose one or two this year to become a member, (membership is as low as $25.00 for some museums) visit or follow them on social media, I urge you to explore this list. It is my goal to not only give on a personal level, but to expose these establishments in an effort to help sustain their legacy.
