'The Hobbit' Wraps Production, Peter Jackson Posts Message To Facebook

IT'S A WRAP!

Citizens of Middle-earth: It's time to party.

Director Peter Jackson took to his Facebook page to announce that principal photography on "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and "The Hobbit: There And Back Again" has completed.

"We made it!" Jackson wrote after posting a picture of himself holding a movie clapboard. "Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on 'The Hobbit.' Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con!"

About that: "The Hobbit" will hit San Diego next week for the annual nerdtravaganza, Comic-Con. The presentation will take place on July 14 (part of a larger Warner Bros. panel), with Jackson and the film's stars (among them Martin Freeman and Sir Ian McKellan) expected to appear. Look for more "Hobbit" footage to arrive then.

"The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," produced by both New Line and MGM, is in theaters on Dec. 14. "There And Back Again" follows in December of 2013.
