The Internet Is Campaigning For Elsa To Get A Girlfriend In 'Frozen 2'

Let the romance begin.

"Frozen" was lauded by audiences around the world for its portrayal of a strong, independent woman. But a sequel could go even one more progressive-step forward by pairing up Queen Elsa with a girlfriend.

The hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend started thanks to a Twitter user named Alexis Isabel.

And trend it did. Other Twitter users began sharing their support for Disney to write a same-sex relationship into the billion-dollar-grossing movie, some even included illustrations of what the romance might look like.

ABC, which is owned by the Disney–ABC Television Group, already features inclusive representation of famous Disney characters on the show "Once Upon A Time," as the Independent notes. On the series, Mulan is in love with Aurora, and "Little Red Riding Hood" Ruby and Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz" are a couple.

While there is no release date for "Frozen 2" yet, reports suggest it won't hit theaters before 2018. That leaves plenty of time for Disney to see just how cool it would be for Elsa to have a girlfriend.
