The Killers Made A Heartbreaking Christmas Song About Coal, And It's An Instant Classic

The Killers' New Christmas Song Is Heartbreaking And Hilarious

Grandma can only get run over by a reindeer so many times before you start wishing Rudolph tramples your stereo too, but now there's a new song to bring in the holiday cheer. And it's not even that cheerful.

The Killers' new song for the RED Campaign is the story about a piece of coal who learns he's going to be a naughty boy's Christmas present. The band has made a Christmas song for the charity every year since 2006. Past collaborators have included Neil Tennant and Elton John, but this time around they went a different route. Rather than bringing in a musical juggernaut, The Killers teamed up with Jimmy Kimmel, donned ugly sweaters and made the slightly melancholy but also totally hilarious instant classic “Joel, the Lump of Coal."

"Jimmy Kimmel Live" airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.
