After her stellar performance in Los Angeles for IHEARTCOMIX's Check Yo Ponytail, I was able to catch up with the new music sensation BOSCO for a quick interview. She recently released her debut EP, "BOY," from Fool's Gold Records. Her sound is reminiscent of '90s R&B that takes me back to my childhood days of watching TRL and hanging pictures of Aaliyah on my wall that I cut out of a magazine. We talked a bit about her musical journey and her early days in Atlanta.

How have things changed for you since the days in Atlanta? And how has the south influenced you as an artist?
Atlanta was a really good stomping ground to develop who I was. It was a great character study for me. This is where I learned DIY tactics, meeting other musicians/artists with similar stories and struggles. Atlanta was like bootcamp, allowing me to cultivate a scene where people wouldn't necessarily gravitate to my music. It kind of forces you to use your imagination because of the lack of resources (or the lack of visibility) so you're forced to create the reality you want and in doing that, I was able to create my world. Once I started to manifest in that world, it just actually happened.

What's the one trait you took from your days in Atlanta that has helped you in your career?
Community building -- Atlanta has really grasp to concept of comradery. There's something to say about trade services; something intimate of your work being in my work. You can share the spotlight, it's not all about you. Plus, once you grasp the concept of your gift is really not for you, and that you're just the by-product of it, it makes you more transparent, people gravitate toward you. I think that's what got me so far there.

Your music is very gravitating, getting industry stamps from A-Trak and Fool's Gold Records. How's the new found fame?
Honestly, the moment you feed into the publicity is the moment you sort of lose your magic. I still really don't understand people hitting me up on Instagram wanting to come to my show. [Laughs] Its still very new to me, but Im very grateful that my music has impacted people enough to become vocal.

"At the end of the day, I'm still just regular BOSCO."

So many artists have lost that magic of humility -- which is the attractiveness and goes far beyond the actual music. So what's next for BOSCO?
I'm wrapping up new visuals for "BOY," a new video. Oh, and I'm also designing new merchandise, a BOSCO jersey.

I'm excited to see it! Your style is on point, somewhere between street wear and high-end fashion. I'll definitely buy one!
You nailed it! Let's come up with a name for that.
