30 Days Of Holiday LGBT Giving: The Montrose Center

Note: This holiday season, in lieu of a traditional holiday gift guide, we'll be featuring a different LGBT organization each day for our "30 Days Of LGBT Giving." Check back tomorrow for a look at another incredible group that's working tirelessly on behalf of the LGBT community.

The Montrose Center in Houston has been serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community of the nation's fourth most populous city for roughly 30 years.

The center, whose original name was the Montrose Counseling Center, aims to empower Houston's LGBT community through its many services, which include: various support groups, HIV/AIDS counseling, crisis intervention, health and wellness activities, as well as programs for youth and senior citizens. New programs are in the works as well, including a free lunch program for older LGBT adults three times a week.

Houston made history in 2009 when it became the country's largest U.S. city to elect an openly gay mayor in Annise Parker, who serves on the Montrose Center's advisory board.

To find out more about this wonderful LGBT resource center and how you can get involved, check out their website and find them on Facebook and Twitter @Montrose_Center.
