PHOTOS: Where To Get The Most (And Least) Bang For Your Buck This Summer

For the third year in a row, TripAdvisor analyzed the costs of a night out and overnight stay (a four-star hotel, cocktails, a two-course dinner paired with a bottle of wine, and round-trip taxi ride) in cities around the globe this summer.

The travel site, which looked at prices from June 1 through August 31, revealed that the average nightly rate at a four-star hotel in the U.S. has risen 18 percent since last summer, with the biggest increases happening in Orlando, Denver, Honolulu, L.A. and Seattle. Not surprisingly, Honolulu was the most expensive U.S. city ($504.94); internationally, Oslo costs the most globally ($581.08). By comparison, a night out in Vegas will cost you $272.94 this summer; Sofia, Bulgaria, is a total steal at $158.42.

Some fun facts from TripAdvisor's survey: London taxis are so expensive (a round trip ride costs roughly $41.47, according to the site) that travelers can make a similar trip nearly 20 times in Kuala Lumpur (average ride: $2.13). Two people can dine out twice in Taipei (average dinner for two: $44.86) for the same price of two rounds of cocktails in Seoul ($44.50).

Curious to compile the info to know exactly where to go (and where to avoid), we listed the most expensive cities around the world--and where you'll get the most bang for your buck stateside below.
