The Most Important Question You Haven't Asked Yourself

Just like buildings have blueprints, I believe we each have our own individual YouPrints. It's where the answer to 'WHO AM I?' lies.

Have you been asking yourself 'What should I do with my life? What type of career should I have?' Or 'Why do the same patterns and problems keep showing up for me?' Maybe the question is 'why can't I stop this negative thinking?'

These are questions we all face at some point in our life. Especially the big chunky 'What should I DO with my life?'

The problem is, these are the WRONG questions.

Think about the career question. Asking 'What should I do with my life/career?' pre-supposes an answer usually routed in different types of jobs. The problem is, we are limited by our own imagination and the extent to which we are aware of the options available to us.

The issue with these types of questions is they encourage us to look outside. We go out in search of the answer. Then we get despondent when the answer evades us. We are so blind-sighted by looking for the answer that we don't realise that the problem isn't the answer, the problem is the question.

What we really need to be asking ourselves is the seldom asked question -- 'WHO AM I?' Once you've properly explored this question it makes the answers to the other questions significantly easier to uncover.

This subject, the subject of YOU, is probably the most important subject you have never studied. Our education system and society have skimmed right over this one. In school it is compulsory for us to DO maths, science, religion, languages, but no one teaches us about our own MINDS.

Can you imagine how much easier life would be if someone taught us about common thinking traps and how to avoid them? If you knew how to quieten your mind-chatter? How to identify the negative talk, limiting beliefs and unchallenged assumptions which hold you back from your goals. More importantly how to easily and effectively challenge these unhelpful thoughts.

What if you had an understanding of the core values that you are operating from every day of your life? Imagine if at the end of studying the subject of 'YOU', instead of a certificate you got handed your own personal BLUEPRINT or YouPrint as I like to call it.

Maybe you're thinking, yes, it would be nice to know these things, but what difference would it make? Well, your YOUPRINT is the key to breaking the patterns that keep showing up for you.

So, for starters, if you know your values, you can use these to effortlessly filter all future career choices AND relationship decisions. Knowing and challenging limiting beliefs will unblock the obstacles in your way from achieving your goals. Understanding your thinking traps means that you will be able to observe your thoughts before acting instead of being hijacked by the emotions they bring up.

The bottom line is that you will have CLARITY in your life, which will bring you CONFIDENCE and ultimately more CONTROL. Having your YouPrint is like being handed your own personal compass for navigating your mind and your world.

What do I mean by YouPrint?

Well, most of you will know that all buildings have blueprints, if you've ever watched a movie with Bruce Willis in it you will know that at some point he usually goes running off into the basement, all sweaty with a flashlight looking for the building's Blueprint.

It's the map, (usually blue!) showing all the rooms and pathways within the building. It also lays-out the hidden tunnels, doors and routes that most people are completely unaware off. It shows you which walls are structurally strong or weak. The blueprint is the foundation from which all improvements are made.

If an architect tried to change something in a building, like add a room, extend the ceiling, or tried in any way to modify it WITHOUT the blueprint it would be, at best, a complete gamble and at worst, a disaster. You could bet on some walls falling down.

I believe it's the same with each and every one of us. If we try to make changes to our behaviours or our thinking without first having our YouPrint, any attempts are unlikely to stick in the long run. It's like trying to find your hotel in a new city without a map. It would be mainly guess work, would take much longer than you'd hoped, it would for sure be frustrating and you'd likely fall out with your partner on the way!

Just like buildings have blueprints, I believe we each have our own individual YouPrints. It's where the answer to 'WHO AM I?' lies.

The answer is inside us, not out there in the ether.

But when it comes to navigating the topic of 'WHO AM I' we are largely on our own. Some people go to therapy or down a more spiritual path in life, but this isn't the only way to find an answer. I believe there is a lot to be learned under this topic without ever having to pay a therapist or go into a silent retreat. There is much to learn from the world of Neuroscience, Behavioural Economics, Psychology and Mindfulness.

How do I know this?

Having spent 15 years studying human behaviour, I've researched different cultures around the world, and used my expertise to help global business and brands better understand their consumers. For the last 4 years I've coached people through their personal journey of discovery.

I know this because I've spoken about the topic on the TED stage, I've spoken about it in Brazil, Canada, Spain and the UK and everywhere I go EVERYONE recognises the importance of truly knowing what makes them tick. But they admit that they are often frustrated because they don't know where to start. However, they acknowledge that if they were given the tools and strategies and shown how to apply them to their life, the answers begin to unfold.

Ultimately, I know this, because I've gone through the process myself. While on my own personal journey I curated a myriad of tools that are out there. I've attended endless workshops and courses on personal development. I've applied my knowledge of human behaviour and my skills as a speaker and coach. I've pulled the latest scientific evidence and empirical research, cherry picked the best, included my own tried and tested approaches and packaged it all up in an intuitive and accessible course.

I've created what I wish had existed back when I faced the same questions and doubts in my life.
