On August 24, 2017, Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) and DC Entertainment (DCE) partnered with Mattel to bring on a new “Super Girl” to musically inspire the DC Super Hero Girls franchise. Musician and YouTube sensation, Megan Nicole, was invited to join the team as they launched their new theme song, “Get Your Cape On!” Aiming to spread a message of positivity, pride, and power, Megan Nicole has proved to be the perfect fit for this role!

After rising to popularity through her YouTube channel, Megan Nicole began using music as a tool for empowerment. She released her debut album, “Escape,” in 2014 and landed a producer and lead acting role in the studio film, “Summer Forever.” The film is based on her original song of the same title. Megan has released another single, “Mascara,” toured internationally, and become a designer and co-founder for her new fashion collection titled “Confetti Heart” in partnership with friend and business partner, Julie Mollo.

Megan’s passion for service isn’t only displayed through her successful musical career. She also travels internationally to support various youth empowerment projects. In early 2016, Megan Nicole accompanied former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, to Argentina in support of a Let Girls Learn initiative. It is inevitable to see why the DC Super Hero Girls franchise invited Megan to join their mission.

What went through your mind when Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment invited you to join the DC Super Hero Girls franchise?

At first I thought, “This is amazing!” I love super heroes, especially Wonder Woman. I was excited because I love what they’re about — empowering young people.

Why is this project important to you?

I started as a young girl with a dream playing in local shows around the Houston area. When my dad encouraged me to start a YouTube channel, I didn’t think it would grow but it did. I’ve chased my dream relentlessly since then and just through sharing my journey and story, I was able to inspire young women. So, it was a natural fit. I want to support girl power and this project lets me do that in collaboration with an already great platform.

What are you most excited about regarding this project?

I’m most excited to reach out to young people and share the message in different ways. Getting to be a part of the music video with other young talented kids that are chasing their dreams too was an exciting experience. We also launched a Thanksgiving campaign on November 15th called “Team Up to Give Back.” We’re encouraging fans and their families to get out into their communities and serve in any way they can. There’s so many ways to get involved too, more than we can imagine.

I’m working with an organization called A Place Called Home and they create a safe heaven for kids to go after school and have a space to create and learn. They’re based in South Central LA and they provide a lot of programs to support the community.

Instagram (@megannicolemusic)The best advice I can give is don’t compare yourself to others and remember that you have your own strength and qualities that make you unique. You see that with all the super hero girls because they’re different but they always come together and embrace what makes them them.

“You hear a lot about girl power but it’s a message you can never get enough of and I hope [DC Super Hero Girls] can reach out to young people through the music and the show.” — Megan Nicole
