Work and life can simultaneously be balanced when we prioritize our goals and simplify everything. Anything in life is possible and some tasks are easier to manage than others. Having a work/life balance becomes increasingly harder and harder to find the perfect ratio because our needs, wants, and demands increase as well. So how to we find a middle ground and learn to give equal attention to each one?
One of the greatest pieces of advice I can give you to balance your life is -- learn how to say NO and know that is a complete sentence. We often times become stretched so thin we don't have time for ourselves. When we become burnt out, weak, overwhelmed, and exhausted with life, we are no good for anyone, including ourselves. We cannot give away what we don't have. Simplify your schedule at work where you spend your greatest amount of time and leave the office or stop doing work at a specified time each day in order to give your undivided attention to your family. Set clear goals and if you have a boss be up front with them and honest about what can they expect from you. However, if you are an entrepreneur then life is typically much easier once you are established and can set your own schedule and make plans accordingly. Learn to show up for your kids special events at school and in athletics, carve out time to date your significant other and go on vacations together as a family, at least twice a month go out and have fun with your friends and learn to exercise self care. You will be no good to anyone if your health is faltering, if your mind is mentally exhausted and your spirituality is empty. Take time to volunteer and give back to your community and be grateful for the things you do have, not what you don't have. An important concept to conquer is remembering that work will always be there and the items you didn't accomplish one day will be waiting for you when you arrive the next. You must learn to let perfectionism go and know obstacles will arise and you have to learn to roll with the punches. Asking for help can be difficult but a must and learning to work as a team instead of doing everything alone. We accomplish a lot more when we work together making our lives a lot more simplified.
When you finally realize you can't be everything to everyone you will quickly learn to prioritize in order to spend time with the people that matter most, while still maintaining your employment status! It definitely is doable to have a work/life balance but you have to be willing to give up some things in order to create this happy medium.
