'The Originals' Picked Up To Series: 'The Vampire Diaries' Spinoff Gets Full-Season Order

IT'S HAPPENING!

"The Vampire Diaries" spinoff, which aired its backdoor pilot on Thursday night, will join its parent show, along with "Supernatural," "Arrow," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Hart of Dixie" for The CW's 2013-2014 TV season.

"As soon as we saw last night's episode of ''The Vampire Diaries,' we knew we wanted more of 'The Originals' -- Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have done a fantastic job with 'The Vampire Diaries,' which is as fast-paced and well-written as ever, and Julie has created an equally compelling world for 'The Originals,'" Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW, said of "The Originals" series order in a statement.

The CW's decision to pick up "The Originals" is not particularly surprising, considering the success of "The Vampire Diaries." However, the pilot did not impress in the ratings.

"The Originals" follows "The Vampire Diaries" characters Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) -- the Mikaelson siblings and three of the world's original vampires -- to New Orleans and the pilot revealed quite the shock: recurring character Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) is pregnant with Klaus' child. You can watch a clip below.

Fans of "The Originals" may be celebrating the pick up, but they'll have to wait until at least September (if not later) to find out how the rest of the story unfolds.
