When it comes to our happiness, there are many misconceptions out there about what happiness actually is, and where to begin when it comes to creating a happier life overall. Becoming clear on what happiness truly is, changing your approach, and learning what works for you when it comes to cultivating your own happiest life can result in tremendous positive change.

I recently had the opportunity to speak about The Power of Re-Thinking Happiness at TEDx Culver City, where I shared a bit of my own personal journey, as well as what happiness really is, what it isn't, and where exactly to begin in creating more of it. Plus, a funny (and inspiring) story about grass stains that will change the way you see them. You can watch it here:

In this talk, I mention a few key things that are important to remember when it comes to re-thinking happiness, and changing our approach to creating it. Here are three I feel are vital:

  • We must stop looking for happiness and instead, start actively creating it.

  • Happiness is not something we find, it's something we do, and a skill that we can learn and become good at.
  • Happiness is our true nature.
  • Popular inspirational quotes and many teachings would have us believe that happiness is simply a choice. The truth is, it only begins with a choice -- a choice that must be followed up with action to bring it to life. It does take mindful effort, but with consistent dedication, it will begin to feel effortless.

If you're willing to try a new approach by actively practicing and cultivating your own happiness each day, you can create wonderful results that are sustainable, as well as create an empowering foundation for your very best life.
