There's An Epic Jersey Shore Hot Rod Race You Need To See

Gentlemen, start yer engines. 🚗

Trust us, you've never seen anything like this.

Behold The Race of Gentlemen, an annual hot rod derby on the Wildwood slice of the New Jersey Shore. For the past four years, both car and kitsch enthusiasts have gathered to watch sand fly as vehicles race down the beach in what organizers call a "living history event."

To qualify, cars must be produced before 1935. Motorcycles must be pre-1947. And drivers travel from all corners of the U.S. to prove their vintage grit at the wheel.

Photographer Johannes Huwe's book "The Race of Gentlemen" captures the scene, which is as close as we've ever come to a trip back in time:

You can see more photos from The Race of Gentlemen and order Huwe's book on his website.

But on second thought, maybe don't visit New Jersey...
