As a former news reporter my priority read is the news...on tablet, mobile and yes a lot on paper. But my salvation is annual when I am invited to the library lunch every year by my friend who is now Vice Chair of the New York Public Library, Abby Milstein. Here I am always reminded about the joys of reading fiction, non fiction and today the subject was comedy...."Writing Funny".
Panelists were Andy Borowitz, Colin Jost, and Susanna Wolff in conversation with the New Yorker Editor, David Remnick. The guys had been Harvard Lampoon editors and vaulted careers at Saturday Night Live and prime time comedy, etc., whereas Ms. Wolff was the lone female and is currently a writer at the New Yorker.
She held her own mostly criticizing current pop culture humor trends citing examples of "morons" who try to tell jokes in 7 seconds on Vine,etc. Watch for yourself at "Watch The 2014 Library Luncheon" video.
Scattered on the lunch tables were fun quotes elegantly written on poster board like cards.
