Carson the Pitbull during “tuck in time”

Carson the Pitbull during “tuck in time”

About a year and a half ago my family took a chance on a slobbering 80 lb Pitbull at the Carson Animal shelter in Los Angeles County California . I wrote about the decision and how it affected our lives in this article for Huffpo . In the past 18 months I can tell you that “Big Boy” AKA Carson has brought so much joy into our family and has broken every expectation and taboo we had ever heard of regarding Pitbull’s.

Carson the Pitbull is a big baby, he loves to “paint” your face with his giant tongue , you also need to to realize that when he decides to do that, he will insist on “finishing” the job regardless if you want it or not! He has never met a couch he didn’t like. He is a huge “bed hog” and I have discovered it is very difficult to move a sleeping 80 lb Pitbull off of the bed when he does not want to move. In his world, French Fries are the greatest thing ever invented, he will sit like a good boy, with drool running out both sides of his mouth just to get some French Fries.

He likes “tuck in time” and runs to the couch every night to be tucked in with his favorite blankets. It has become a ritual that we enjoy so much. He like’s to wedge himself in between my wife and I in the morning like a “hot dog” , he just looks at us and smiles, then licks every inch of our faces .

He is still scared of doorways, bowls, monsters and such. He has not quite figured out how to “play”, he just kind of runs around and “looks.” He is great with other dogs and has the neatest ears that pop up whenever there is food around. He snores like a chainsaw when he takes his many daily naps. He has a huge heart, gives us all so much love and appreciates the fact that he is with his forever family.

Carson has broken the unfair stereotype for Pitbull’s by showing that they are loving, caring goofballs that appreciate the fact that they have a home and a family. I visit the Carson shelter every so often just to bring a little love to the many , many Pitbull’s that are waiting for families to adopt them. I know there are many that the shelter has right now just waiting for someone to take a chance on them just like my family did with Carson .

Carson would appreciate if you did, I know you all will get lot’s of tongue baths and kisses if you do.
