Let’s get one thing straight: Belle’s a weirdo.
Who needs books when you got looks, amiright? The townspeople get it.
Despite her character’s unconventional behavior, there is something enchanting about actress Emma Watson singing, “Belle,” the opening song to “Beauty and the Beast,” or, as you might say during trivia, “That One Bonjour Song.” Perhaps the most enchanting thing is a possible nod to Watson’s “Harry Potter” role.
In the original song for Disney’s animated “Beauty and the Beast,” Belle has a chat with the baker who dismisses her, saying, “That’s nice. Marie! The baguettes!”
(LOL, Marie. Who could forget the baguettes?)
But the new version has a noticeable change ...
“Good morning, Monsieur Jean. Have you lost something again?” asks Watson’s character.
“I believe I have. Problem is, I can’t remember what,” says Monsieur Jean.
Uh, what? Who the heck is Monsieur Jean? Where’s the line about the baguettes? Marie! The baguettes!
Tale as old as time? This is more like a tale as old as crime!
Until you remember “Harry Potter” ...
In “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” there’s a scene where Neville gets a Remembrall. Watson’s character, Hermione, explains what that means, saying, “I’ve read about those. When the smoke turns red, it means you’ve forgotten something.”
Neville replies, “The only problem is, I can’t remember what I’ve forgotten.”
We think so. Some on Reddit agree.
Of course, it could just be a coincidence.
Sure. It’s coincidence that one of the few released scenes from “Beauty and the Beast,” Disney’s big-budget live-action remake of the timeless classic, has a change that reflects a moment from Watson’s most famous role.
This is the opening song. If Hermione Granger sorted out her priorities, “Belle” would likely be the top one.
What’s more, as my copy editor Jill points out, the word for magic wand in French is “baguette magique.” You know, like the baguette line that got replaced? Jill calls it a “cute coincidence.” I call it conspiracy!
Whether the “Harry Potter” reference is intentional or not, we’re not complaining.
