In honor of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, let's talk about a few things that are incredibly hurtful to those impacted by a loved one's suicide. When people make flippant comments about suicide, wanting to kill themselves, or pretending to kill themselves through gestures, it not only triggers tremendous pain and trauma to anyone who has lost a loved one by suicide, but it also shows a complete lack of compassion to all those affected by such a devastating loss.

After discussing this topic with hundreds of fellow suicide loss survivors, we can all agree on one thing: we would love it if others would stop doing the following:
