When holding up a Subway sandwich store without any weapons, what's a man to 'do?
Arieus Warren used a curling iron, according to Dallas police.
Police say Warren, 30, entered a Subway at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday, concealing a curling iron under his hoodie to make it look like a gun, according to The Dallas Morning News. Warren's arrest affidavit says he ordered customers to get down and told an employee to put all the money in a sandwich bag, the paper reports.
Carrying his loot, totaling $9, Warren then allegedly demanded that a woman give him the keys to her Nissan Juke, declaring, "Give me the keys or I’ma shoot y’all." Something went wrong with the escape plan, though, because he left the money on the car seat and fled.
Warren fled on W. Kiest Boulevard near Interstate 35E to an adjacent neighborhood, where he once again used the curling iron to try to steal a car while the driver was still inside, according to NBC-DFW. The car's owner said he recognized that Warren didn't have a gun, and drove off to call police.
Officers found Warren hiding in a nearby storage shed, and arrested him on charges of robbery and evading arrest. He's being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $20,000 bond. Jail records show that he was sentenced to 150 days in jail for evading an arrest charge in 2012.
